Continental`s winter tyre range for MPVs and light vans

Continental`s winter tyre range for MPVs and light vans
Anyone using MPVs or light vans to carry passengers or heavy loads in winter must be able to rely on his tyres. Continental's products fully meet demands in terms of safety, ruggedness and economy.

The VancoWinter 2, a dedicated traction tyre for safe transport applications in winter

Continental presented the new VancoWinter 2 in the winter of 2007/2008. The successor to the well-established VancoWinter, which was rated as 'very good' in the German motoring magazine pro mobil in its 2006 test of size 215/75 R 16 C, benefits from substantial optimisation of its safety potential. The VancoWinter 2 has, for example, a smart sipe concept, where different types of sipes are combined to make best use of the respective advantages. Wave-shaped sipes are used in the shoulder, whilst so-called scale-shaped sipes feature in the tread ribs. This particular technical feature, in conjunction with a special winter grip compound, means the tyre has car-like characteristics in snow, achieving noticeably shorter braking distances than its predecessor in snow and ice. The tyre's winter performance is confirmed by the snowflake symbol according to RMA testing standards.

The tyre's characteristics in the wet have also been substantially improved. The grooved tread area on the VancoWinter 2 has been increased by 10%. The wide drainage channels on the striking 3-groove tread pattern mean the tyre can now pick up and discharge considerably more water and slush. The VancoWinter 2 is also impressive in terms of economy. The flat contour concept ensures a wide traction area and uniform tread wear. The rugged scuff rib protects against damage. The tyre's outstanding all-round performance in both commercial and private use is backed up by its double test win in the two German motoring magazines 'Pro mobil' and 'Transporter Magazin', where it was rated as 'very good'.

Depending on the size, the VancoWinter 2 is laid out for speeds of up to 190 km/h (118 mph) and is available in 18 sizes from 165/70 R 14 C 89/87 to 225/75 R 16 C 116/114 R to fit 14" to 17" rims.

The VancoWinterContact - for small, light vans and family MPVs

The VancoWinterContact combines excellent braking characteristics on wintry roads with high aquaplaning safety and outstanding mileage. This tyre, which was specifically designed to meet the requirements of MPVs and small, light vans, has very a deep tread pattern. Deep sipes criss-cross the individual tread lugs, which are themselves offset and thus form very many edges, ensuring the tyre interlocks exceptionally well with icy or snow-covered roads. As a result, the VancoWinterContact is able to transmit braking and drive forces safely to the road during the cold season.

The high aquaplaning safety offered by the VancoWinterContact is a result of its striking tread pattern, with grooves that widen towards the outer edge of the tyre. These are able to collect water and slush efficiently and disperse them particularly swiftly. The flat tyre contour common to all Continental MPV tyres ensures even ground pressure distribution and thus low wear for a longer tyre life. In 2004, the motoring magazine pro mobil tested this MPV tyre from Continental in size 215/65 R 16 C 106 T and rated it as 'very good'.

The VancoWinterContact is designed for driving in winter at speeds of up to 190 km/h (118 mph), depending on the tyre size. There are currently five sizes available for 13", 15" and 16" rims, ranging from 165/70 R 13 C 88/86 R to 215/65 R 16 C 102/100 T TL.
