Continental tyres convince the motoring press
Numerous products from all the corporation's brands have come away very well in the current summer tyre tests carried out by the specialist motoring press. The editorial teams responsible for the tests have thus confirmed Continental's principle of setting a balanced performance ratio in terms of safety, comfort and economy when developing tyres.

In conjunction with the German consumer institute Stiftung Warentest, the motoring organisation ADAC took a close look at the popular sizes 175/65 R 14 T (for speeds of up to 190 km/h - 118 mph) and 195/65 R 15 V (up to 240 km/h - 150 mph). The ContiEcoContact 3, size 175/65 R 14 T, was awarded the rating 'highly recommended'. The 'ADAC motorwelt' magazine described it as a "Very balanced tyre with top marks in the wet." The ContiPremiumContact 2, size 195/65 R 15 V, was rated as 'good' ('ADAC motorwelt') and 'recommended' ('test' magazine). This was the highest grade given by the Stiftung Warentest to any tyre of this size.

The editorial team of the German magazine 'AutoBild' tested summer tyres in the size 225/45 R 17 Y, including the ContiSportContact 3. The testers confirmed not only the balanced characteristics of this tyre, but also its good safety reserves in the case of aquaplaning. The overall result was 'very good'. In the test carried out by the magazine 'Auto Zeitung', the high-performance tyre came second and was rated as 'recommended'.

The test candidates examined by 'auto motor und sport' magazine included the ContiPremiumContact 2, size 235/55 R 17 Y/W. With its very good handling on wet and dry roads, plus good aquaplaning characteristics, highly precise steering response and low rolling noise, this tyre achieved second place and was rated as 'recommended'.

The ContiPremiumContact 2 also gave a convincing performance in the braking test carried out by the German Technical Inspectorate 'TUV Sud Automotive'. The company checked the braking distances of summer tyres from seven different brands, including all the well-known premium manufacturers, in the size 205/55 R 16 H. The ContiPremiumContact 2 emerged as the winner of this comparative test on both wet and dry roads.

The Auto Club Europa (ACE) carried out a further revealing comparative test in conjunction with the GTU (Gesellschaft f"ur technische Uberwachung - Technical Monitoring Company). They checked which tyres best managed to balance braking in the wet with rolling resistance. In the size 195/65 R 15 H, the ContiPremiumContact 2 came out top. In the size 175/65 R 14 T, where no Continental tyre participated, the Barum Brillantis was the winner.
