Continental tyres achieve success in trade magazines

AutoBild's testers (Issue 11/08) commended the ContiSportContact 3 in particular for its excellent balance and high aquaplaning safety. The new RainSport 2 from Uniroyal was praised for its good aquaplaning safety and its smooth handling on dry roads, whilst the Barum Bravuris 2 was "recommended" for its secure handling characteristics on wet roads. AutoBild tested the Dimension 225/45 R 17, which is suitable for vehicles such as the Audi A3, the BMW 3 Series or the Mercedes C-Class. A total of 15 products were tested. Four products were classed as "exemplary", five were classed as "good" and four were "recommended". Only two models scored "satisfactory" or "unsatisfactory" – an all-season tyre and a cheap Chinese import. In the test for 4x4 tyres the ContiCrossContact UHP came second. In addition to its "recommended" rating, testers also commented that it offered "extremely safe summer tyres with secure handling characteristics and excellent side guidance in wet and dry conditions".
ams concentrated on the 235/55 R 17 size of tyres and tested these on a Mercedes S-Class 5.5 l V8. Testers awarded the ContiPremiumContact 2 second place with a "recommended" rating. Its main strengths were its "excellent handling characteristics on wet and dry roads, aquaplaning safety, extremely precise steering response and minimal rolling noise" (ams issue 7/08).
Once again the test results showed that the best tyres were those that offered an ideal compromise between characteristics on wet and dry roads, good handling and secure brake performance and low rolling resistance. Consequently, the products that were designed with one factor in mind were generally rated as "not recommended" or "unsatisfactory".
